EBES – GLO Conference Collaborations: Budapest, Rome, Berlin: 2023-2024

The 45th EBES Conference took place on October 11-13, 2023 in Budapest, Hungary. The conference was hosted by Mathias Corvinus Collegium and organized in Hybrid Mode (online and in-person). GLO & EBES President Klaus F. Zimmermann gave a welcome speech together with Ender Demir (EBES) and Zoltan Csefalvay (Mathias Corvinus Collegium). Zimmermann also chaired the Editors’ Panel Session presenting the two EBES journals Eurasian Economic Review and the Eurasian Business Review next to his own Journal of Population Economics.

EBES 45 Budapest Conference Program

The next conferences were discussed and announced (mark your calendars):

  • January 10-12, 2024: Rome, Italy.  46th EBES HYBRID conference. Submission deadline November 30, 2023.  Call for contributions.
  • April 18-20, 2024: Berlin, Germany. 47th EBES HYBRID conference. (The first two days will be in person only.) Jointly Organized with GLO and FOM University of Applied Sciences, Berlin. GLO will organize a separate program part with separate registration and paper call. Participants will have access to all program parts of both conferences.

Celebrating 150 Years of Verein für Socialpolitik (German Economic Association) at Regensburg/Germany.

On September 24-27 the 2023 Annual Conference of the Verein für Socialpolitik (VfS; German Economic Association) took place to celebrate the 150 anniversary of its creation and to discuss new research. The event was directed by its Chairwoman, Regina Riphahn.

GLO President Klaus F. Zimmermann, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Population Economics, participated to meet fellows, authors and representatives of Springer Nature.

VfS Chairwoman Regina T. Riphahn during her speeches at key events of the 2023 congress. Riphahn is a co-author of the GLO President, who had also supported her Habilitation at the University of Munich.

The Journal of Population Economics (JOPE) has just received SSCI IF (2022) = 6.1 (CiteScore 2022 = 9.3), which makes the journal no. 1/29 in demography and no. 38/380 in economics. It publishes 90 articles in 4 issues in 2023. Thanks for support for the journal goes to Martina Bihn and Elli Ivanova of Springer Nature.

Springer Nature publishes also the book series in “Population Economics” and the Handbook of “Labor, Human Resources and Population Economics” both supported by Niko Chtouris of Springer Nature. Also thanks to him.

Parental Gender Stereotypes at EALE 2023 in Prague.

September 2023, 21-23: EALE (European Association of Labour Economists) Conference Prague. Session chair & paper presentation on Parental Gender Stereotypes and Student Wellbeing in China. Great conference with many interesting articles. Great presentation of the EALE President.

As the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Population Economics (JOPE), discussion with authors of the journal and potential contributors about the recent ranking successes and perspectives of the future publication agenda. Michèle Belot’s recent JOPE paper got already 21k accesses and 137 citations. Met many friends and got so many more new contacts. Many GLO Fellows present.

Naples, Italy: Participation at the 14-16 September 2023 SITES 2023 Annual Conference on “Persistence and Change: the new challenges for economic development”. Klaus F. Zimmermann delivered a keynote speech on: Social Identity and Economic Assimilation. As the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Population Economics, he also discussed the recent ranking successes and provided perspectives of the future publication agenda.
